Acrylic & Color Test

Now that I'm satisfied with the shape of the module, I decided to laser cut them on acrylic in order to clean the burns and solidify the shape as it's quite weak in carboard.

I also wished to add color however, I didn't want to have a uniform color so I partly painted them in order to create a random pattern.

I tried to laser cut my shape again but smaller and with small cuts. I put 2 cuts on each shape and have 3 different modules with cuts at different place/angle. Then once I laser cut few of each I tried to combine them to make a structure. I made me think it could be a creative construction game for children with the same principle than lego or kapla : you have an unic shape and you combine it to create something. 

I'm pretty happy with this first result. However I wonder if I should put more than 2 cuts on the same module in order to be able to build a more dense and less linear contruction. So the next step is to try adding more cuts in my module, laser cut few more and try again to combine them.

Mushroom test laser cut

Now that I tried lasr cutting my shape in different size, there's several test I want to run. I would like to have it even smaller but that would mean having it flat because the pieces would be too small. So either I keep the size and have it in volume or I make it even smaller but flat. I will also try with thicker material, probably another type of cardboard. Finally, I need to start testing how I can sculpt with those tiny shapes, how I can combine them together to make the final sculpture.

Still can't laser cut so I made different sketches of what I can do with my mushroom shape :

First idea is to make a mushroom invasion. Pedestal can be laser cut too out of cardboard. I need to identify the good scale of the mushroom depending on the laser cut.

I don't really like the idea of having a big pedestal like that so why not hiding it ?

Maybe I can change the mushroom shape ? I need a very simple shape in order to make it with maybe 3 or 4 layers of cardboard so that I can make very tiny mushroom. If I can make it quite small, then I can make lot of them and stick them together in order to create this "invasion" effect.


Another idea is to create only one giant mushroom. Maybe I can make it multi-material ? It would be cool to make it out of cardboard and foam and be able to squeeze it for example.
